Certified Driver Education Schools

New drivers must complete a Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) approved Driver's Education Course consisting of a minimum of thirty (30) hours classroom instruction and six (6) hours behind the wheel instruction training.  The Maryland driving school will electronically submit verification of completion to the MVA. New drivers must also present the completed skills practice log and completed certification page along with your unexpired Maryland learner's instructional permit.​ 

Out-of-State Driver Education​

Out-of-State Driver's Education certification(s) are currently accepted from the following states:

How to Submit Out-of-State Driver Education Completion

  1. Email your out-of-state driver education completion documentation to the MVA's Business Licensing and Compliance Division
  2. ​The MVA's Business Licensing and Compliance Division will review and contact you within two business days. If approved, you will receive a letter to bring with you to your appointment to prove completion of your driver education requirement.​
You can also bring your out-of state driver education completion documentation to your appointment, but it will take a couple days for the MVA to review. The quickest way to get approval is to email it ahead of time to the MVA's Business Licensing and Compliance Division and bring the letter you receive to your appointment.
