States with Vehicle Emissions Inspection Reciprocity

If you are currently located in one of the states listed below, Maryland VEIP will accept your emissions test results from that state. Visit the Emission Testing station in the state in which you are currently located with your vehicle and take the test. Once your vehicle has successfully passed the emission test, following the instructions below to submit to Maryland VEIP.

Option 1: SUBMIT PASSING TEST ONLINE OR FAX
Login or create a myMVA account to upload the passing emissions test certificate online through ContactMVA. You can also fax the passing test certificate, along with the Maryland emissions inspection notice or a fax cover sheet with the vehicle’s title and tag number, to 410-582-5296. After the vehicle’s record has been updated, you will receive a compliance letter at the Maryland address on file for the vehicle.

Option 2: FAILED TEST EXTENSION
If the vehicle fails the out of state emissions test, please send the failed test certificate using one of the contact methods above. VEIP will issue a four month extension, allowing additional time to repair and retest the vehicle. An extension letter will be mailed to the Maryland address on file for the vehicle.
Option 3: OUT-OF-STATE OR MILITARY WAIVER
If you are out-of-state or active military and currently serving outside of Maryland, theMVA can assist in delaying your VEIP inspection or accepting a vehicle emissions inspection test result from another state. Click here for information on how to submit the forms necessary.
