Welcome to the new MVA.Maryland.gov!
You’ve reached the new website for the Maryland Motor Vehicle Adminstration. Thanks for visiting!
The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) brings information, services, and resources directly to communities across Maryland. Explore the outreach programs below or contact us to learn more.
ID & documentation help
These programs help Maryland residents get or protect the identification they need for everyday life.
Homeless Resource Day
The MVA partners with nonprofits and community organizations to support individuals experiencing homelessness who need a Maryland identification card (ID).
During outreach events, MVA staff assist participants by:
- Determining eligibility for a Maryland ID
- Reviewing required documentation
- Explaining next steps to complete the ID process
These events help individuals get the identification they need for employment, housing and other essential services.
Re-Entry Program for Incarcerated Individuals
The MVA works with state and local correctional facilities to help incarcerated and recently released individuals obtain identification.
MVA staff visit correctional facilities throughout Maryland to:
- Process identification applications
- Review documentation requirements
- Assist individuals with obtaining an ID prior to or after release
Having proper identification helps individuals access employment, housing, and support services as they re-enter the community.
Safety & education programs
These programs bring road safety information and driver services directly to schools and communities.
Driver & vehicle safety presentations
The MVA is home to the Maryland Highway Safety Office, whose mission is to reduce deaths and injuries on Maryland roadways. Safety outreach presentations are available for schools and community groups and cover topics such as:
- Impaired driving (alcohol and drugs)
- Distracted driving
- Aggressive driving
- Pedestrian safety
- Other roadway safety issues
In-school learner’s permit testing
The MVA offers learner's permit knowledge testing in Maryland public high schools, allowing students to take the test at school instead of traveling to an MVA branch.
Students who pass the test will still need to visit an MVA branch to receive their physical learner’s permit.
School administrators interested in participating can submit a request to schedule testing.

Additional programs & resources
Address confidentiality
The MVA participates in the Maryland Safe at Home Address Confidentiality Program (ACP) - PDF administered by the Maryland Office of the Secretary of State.
This program helps protect the addresses of individuals who have relocated or plan to relocate due to domestic violence, human trafficking, or other safety concerns.
The program allows participants to use a substitute address to help prevent perpetrators from locating them.
