Where does the money go?
Money for the Bay plate is directed to the Chesapeake Bay Trust, a Maryland-based nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers. Since 1985, the Trust has awarded more than $45 million in grants to organizations, schools, and community groups to restore Maryland’s shorelines, educate schoolchildren about the environment, green local neighborhoods and clean-up local rivers and streams. The Trust is a 4-star charity as ranked by Charity Navigator, with 90 percent of its funding dedicated to projects that benefit the environment.
Funding from the Agricultural license plate is directed to the Maryland Agricultural Education Foundation, a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting the understanding and appreciation of the importance of agriculture in Marylander’s daily lives. MAEF’s efforts advance premier educational programs enhancing education and agricultural literacy statewide.
