As a part of its system modernization, MDOT MVA has begun assigning "MD ID" Driver's License and ID numbers. At the time of their next Driver’s License/ID transaction, every Marylander will receive an MD ID. ​The "MD ID" is a randomly generated number that will provide enhanced security and protection of personal information for customers. This replaces the number that traditionally started with the first initial of a customer’s last name. The unique identification begins with "MD" and includes 13 characters.
