WHAT: May is considered the "unofficial" start of the summer travel season, and as motorcyclists return to the roadways, the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) and ABATE of Maryland Inc. will hold three events to remind drivers to share the road with all motorists. In recognition of Governor Wes Moore declaring May as Motorcycle Awareness Month, this safety campaign aims to increase awareness, provide education on the rules of the road for new and seasoned drivers and emphasize measures that improve motorcyclist safety statewide. At each of the events, MVA officials will discuss the motorcycle safety programs FAST TRACK and Maryland MOTORS (Motor Officers Teaching Other Riders Safety). FAST TRACK is an expedited process for motorcycle licensing in Maryland that allows customers to take both the knowledge test for the Class M learner’s permit and the riding test on the same day. Maryland MOTORS is a course offered by the MVA’s Highway Safety Office, Maryland State Police and local law enforcement agencies, which provides skills assessments for all motorcyclists with the goal of providing education to keep everyone safe on Maryland roads. WHO: - Representatives from the Motor Vehicle Administration and the MVA’s Highway Safety Office
- Members of the local chapters of ABATE of Maryland, Inc.
- Local elected officials and members of law enforcement
