WHAT:
Representatives of the Maryland Department of Transportation, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and the Motor Vehicle Administration will join together Friday, September 8, for tree planting event highlighting the state’s Pamela J. Kelly Tree-Mendous Maryland Program. The program is a collaboration between these agencies, and provides Marylanders with an opportunity to support the environment initiatives of the Moore Administration by helping restore tree cover on public land and community open space, and to mitigate the effects of pollution. Maryland vehicle owners can make a $1 donation – or any denomination of their choosing – to the program when they register or renew their vehicle registration using the Motor Vehicle Administration webpage e-Store or a self-service kiosk. Proceeds help fund tree planting projects in Maryland and support efforts to educate citizens on the importance of trees and their role in maintaining a healthy environment. WHEN:

To date, the Tree-Mendous Maryland program has raised more than $67,000 and has assisted some 3,000 towns and communities, parks and schools in planting trees and shrubs. Tree plantings help clean the water and air, beautify our towns and cities and make them environmentally attractive places to live. The program launched in April, which is recognized as Earth Month. ###
