MDOT MVA Adds CharmCard® to Online & Kiosk Service Offerings

MDOT MTA’s CharmCard® can be used for fare payment on Local Bus, Light RailLink, and Metro SubwayLink service

GLEN BURNIE, MD - The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) Motor Vehicle Administration (MDOT MVA) and the MDOT Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) have teamed up to provide customers with the ability to purchase a CharmCard® through MDOT MVA’s website and self-service kiosks. The MDOT MTA CharmCard® is a rechargeable smart farecard that can be used to pay for MDOT MTA transit services on Local Bus, Light RailLink and Metro SubwayLink. The cards that are ordered on the site or at kiosks will be mailed to the customer.

“Offering the CharmCard® on the MDOT MVA website and kiosks, is a great example of our One MDOT approach to creating efficiencies and delivering on our customer service promise,” said MDOT Secretary Pete K. Rahn.

“The CharmCard® is one of the easiest, safest and most convenient ways for riders to pay for their fare,” said MDOT MTA Administrator Kevin Quinn. “By partnering with MDOT MVA, we are now increasing the opportunity for Marylanders to get this card in one convenient transaction.”

MDOT MVA offers many online service options, including vehicle registration and tag renewal, driver’s license and ID card renewal, address change and VEIP extension.  The CharmCard® purchase option is found in the “Additional MD Products” section of the MDOT MVA online services homepage, which also provides the ability to purchase an E-ZPass “On the Go” transponder and renew a boat registration.

“We strive to be a ‘one-stop shop’ for customer service needs, and are always looking for new ways to deliver premier service to Maryland residents,” said MDOT MVA Administrator Christine Nizer.  “We hope many customers will enjoy the convenience this additional option provides.”
