June 28, 2018 Statement from MDOT MVA Administrator Christine Nizer

On Tuesday, MDOT MVA, in cooperation with the State Board of Elections, identified additional voters who could be impacted by the same computer programming error as previously announced.  I am confident that the ultimate number of voters impacted on election day would have been fewer than the 80,000 announced Monday.

While this situation is truly regrettable, it is important to know that all affected customers were able to vote.  Their provisional ballots will be cross checked by the State Board of Elections with MDOT MVA’s list to ensure every vote is counted.

I, again, apologize for any inconvenience our customers experienced.  MDOT MVA has taken immediate action to fix the programming error and put redundant measures in place to ensure it never happens again.
