GLEN BURNIE, MD (November 10, 2025) – The Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) is expanding its partnership with the Maryland Department of Veterans and Military Families (DVMF) to honor and support the resilience of Maryland’s veterans and their families. Starting on Veterans Day, November 11th, MVA customers can donate to the Maryland Veterans Trust Fund when registering or renewing their vehicle registration using myMVA Online Services. The Maryland Veterans Trust Fund is a 501(c)(3) organization that offers crucial assistance to veterans and their families facing temporary financial hardships, helping with essential needs like rent, mortgage payments and utilities. “Maryland is proud to make it easier than ever for residents to support those who have served our nation,” said MVA Administrator Chrissy Nizer. “This new donation option and our expanded veteran services offices ensure support for our veterans and their families is more accessible across the state, not just on Veterans Day, but all year long.” With the addition of an online donation option through the MVA, Marylanders now have a simple, secure way to give back. This initiative reflects the MVA’s commitment to providing a convenient, one-stop government service experience while offering residents an easy way to support veterans during a time when many face growing financial challenges. “The Maryland Veterans Trust Fund exists to meet veterans where they are — often in moments of crisis — and provide timely, meaningful assistance,” said Maryland Veterans Trust Fund Executive Director Heather Geraldes. “The new online donation feature makes it easier than ever for Marylanders to make a difference. Whether it’s a one-time gift or recurring support, every contribution provides real help and hope.” In addition to the new option to donate, the MVA and DVMF have opened Veteran Service Program Offices in nine MVA branches across the state, including new locations in Annapolis and Waldorf. Open Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. (by appointment only), these offices reflect the MVA’s commitment to one-stop-shop branches that offer convenient access to a range of local, state, and federal services. Staffed by trained professionals who assist veterans in applying for benefits through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the co-located DVMF offices bring support closer to where veterans live and work—reducing travel, shortening wait times and expanding access to the care and benefits they’ve earned. In the past year alone, DVMF assisted more than 6,000 veterans, dependents and survivors in securing over $54 million in federal benefits. “This partnership is another example of Maryland’s commitment to serving those who have served us,” said Maryland Department of Veterans and Military Families Acting Secretary Ed Rothstein. “Thanks to the Motor Vehicle Administration’s collaboration, Marylanders can now make an immediate impact. Every dollar donated helps a Veteran or military family in need — and together, we’re ensuring that no one who served has to face hardship alone.” The MVA also offers a variety of services specifically for veterans and military personnel: - CDL Skills Test Waiver – Veterans and active service members who qualify can skip the skills test when applying for a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program (VEIP) Testing Exemption – Active-duty personnel stationed out of state or overseas may be exempt from Maryland emissions testing.
- Veteran Designation – Add a “Veteran” label to your Maryland driver’s license or ID card for easier access to benefits.
- Specialty License Plates – Veterans can choose from over 100 veteran and military-themed plates, including Space Force plates. Veterans with 100% disability are eligible for free permanent registration.
The Maryland MVA will close all branch offices and VEIP stations on Tuesday, November 11 in honor of Veterans Day. The MVA branch offices and VEIP testing stations will be open for normal operations on Wednesday, November 12.
