MDOT MVA leaders cut the ribbon to officially open the new Silver Spring branch office.

SILVER SPRING, MD (January 19, 2021)
 – The Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration (MDOT MVA) has relocated its Silver Spring branch office to better serve customers in Montgomery County. The new Kemp Mill office, at 1327 Lamberton Drive in Silver Spring, is now open by appointment only, replacing the Glenmont office on Georgia Avenue. In recent weeks MDOT MVA staff has been contacting customers with future appointments to notify them of the new location.

The new space is 5,375 square feet – more than 2,000 square feet larger than the Glenmont office – which will help MDOT MVA accommodate customers in Montgomery County while continuing to provide space for social distancing. At the new Kemp Mill location, customers will find a range of service options, including newly added law test appointments, which are required to receive a learner’s permit and had previously been unavailable at Glenmont.

“Despite the many challenges 2020 brought our way, I am so proud of the work our MDOT MVA team has done to make this move happen,” said MDOT MVA Administrator Chrissy Nizer. “We are still encouraging customers to stay home and take advantage of as many services as possible on our MDOT MVA website, but for Montgomery County residents who need to visit us in person, we are excited to serve you at Kemp Mill.”

The office is outfitted with plexiglass dividers at workstations, floor markers to designate safe distances and all other safety measures implemented at MDOT MVA branches statewide in response to COVID-19. Face coverings and health screenings, including a temperature scan, are required upon entry for all customers and staff.

“The design and function of the new MDOT MVA branch at Kemp Mill is centered on our core mission of customer service and safety for our team and the public,” said MDOT Secretary Greg Slater. “MDOT MVA services are critical to our customers, our economy and to those who keep Maryland’s supply chain moving. We urge customers to explore the services available online, but this new branch provides convenient access for residents of Montgomery County when they need it.”

The new 5,375 square foot location on Lamberton Drive is open by appointment only.

Appointments at the new location are now available for booking on the MDOT MVA Central Appointment Scheduler. Hours of operation will be 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Self-service kiosks will be available 24-hours in the lobby for use without an appointment.

This is the second new space MDOT MVA has opened in Montgomery County in the last year. In January 2020, the Walnut Hill Annex opened to support REAL ID appointments at the Walnut Hill branch office in Gaithersburg. The annex has also provided additional space for social distancing during the pandemic, serving more than 30,000 customers since opening.

Marylanders are encouraged to use the First Stop Tool on the MDOT MVA website to find out if they are eligible to renew their driver’s license online and take advantage of a number of other services available from the comfort and safety of home. The REAL ID Look Up Tool can also help with identifying the correct documents to bring if a branch office visit is required.
