MDOT MVA and Partners Usher in Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month

Share the Road Campaign to Reduce Motorcycle Crashes Starts with Safety and FAST TRACK Licensing Event

WHAT:
The Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration (MDOT MVA), ABATE of Maryland, Inc., and other community partners will kick off Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month at the MDOT MVA Hagerstown branch. The month-long campaign will provide education on the rules of the road for new and seasoned riders and encourage all drivers to share the road. Local community organizations and vendors will also be available from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., providing safety-related information.

Customers interested in obtaining a motorcycle license will be able to complete FAST TRACK licensing, a more expedient process for becoming a licensed motorcyclist. Also, UPS will provide an on-site demonstration featuring a freight truck to highlight the dangers of blind spots.

WHEN:
10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 1, 2019 (Official Kickoff)

WHO:
Chrissy Nizer, MDOT MVA Administrator and Governor Hogan’s Highway Safety Representative Gary "Pappy" Boward, ABATE of Maryland, Inc. - Washington County Chapter
Washington County Board of Commissioners
Sherriff Douglas W. Mullendore, Washington County’s Sheriff’s Office

WHERE:
MDOT MVA Hagerstown Branch Office
18306 Col. Henry K. Douglas Drive, Hagerstown, MD 21740

WHY:
Ninety percent of motorcycle riders involved in crashes have no formal safety training. MDOT MVA is committed to offering training courses for new and experienced riders that emphasize the skills and concentration necessary to operate a motorcycle.

MDOT also reminds motorists to always buckle up and to drive distraction-free. For more on Toward Zero Deaths Maryland, visit towardzerodeathsmd.com or find us on Facebook @towardzerodeathsmd, on Twitter @tzd_maryland, and on Instagram at twdzerodeaths_md.
