GLEN BURNIE, MD (January 27, 2025) – Lt. Governor Aruna K. Miller today joined the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration (MDOT MVA) to celebrate the completion of a $12 million renovation project at the agency’s Glen Burnie headquarters. The renovation project provides major updates to the 60-year-old building’s public areas and convenient access to one-stop-shop state services. “I was proud to join Maryland Transportation Secretary Paul J. Wiedefeld and Motor Vehicle Administrator Chrissy Nizer to celebrate the completion of this critical renovation project,” said Lt. Governor Aruna K. Miller. “With these vital upgrades, our 800 branch employees can continue to provide world-class service to more than 390,000 Marylanders. Time doesn’t stand still and neither can we. This isn’t about upgrading a building, it’s about upgrading how we serve the great people of Maryland." Since April 2023, the MVA has undergone a full modernization of the Glen Burnie branch to improve customer flow, accessibility and safety. The Glen Burnie branch offices complete more transactions than any other branch. Key updates include: - Redesigned workstations and centralized customer-facing services on the first floor for enhanced convenience
- Three new elevators replace antiquated escalators originally installed in 1961
- Expanded self-service kiosk areas
- A new MVA Police office
- Upgraded fire protection systems and a new HVAC system to improve indoor air quality
- Modern energy-efficient windows to reduce energy consumption
“MVA maintained a superb overall customer satisfaction rate while continuing to offer services to diverse populations, provide a safe workplace and undergo a huge renovation all at the same time,” said Maryland Transportation Secretary Paul J. Wiedefeld. “It’s a testament to the more than 1,700 talented MVA employees who work hard every day to deliver premier customer service to all Marylanders.” During the remodeling project, the Glen Burnie branch office remained open as all work was conducted after normal business hours. Temporary walls were installed to protect branch employees and customers, and safety inspections were completed daily. “This renovation embodies our commitment to providing Marylanders with a seamless and efficient customer experience,” said MDOT MVA Administrator Chrissy Nizer during the event. “These upgrades ensure that our Glen Burnie branch will continue to meet the evolving needs of our customers while delivering on our promise of a premier customer experience.” The Glen Burnie branch also serves as a one-stop shop for a variety of state services, including the Transportation Security Administration PreCheck/TWIC, the Maryland Department of Veterans and Military Families, and the Criminal Justice Information System Fingerprinting and The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) E-Z Pass Customer Service Center. These services will now be housed in a modern, accessible facility designed to enhance both employee and customer experiences. The Glen Burnie branch office’s transformation is the latest in a series of MDOT MVA initiatives aimed at modernizing services to achieve a premier customer experience. Recent advancements, such as the launch of myMVA online services and Maryland Mobile ID, have already revolutionized how Marylanders interact with the MVA. These renovations further cement the agency’s role as a leader in customer-focused innovation. For more information about MDOT MVA and its services, visit mva.maryland.gov. ###
