WHAT: Governor Larry Hogan will join Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) Secretary Greg Slater, MDOT Motor Vehicle Administrator (MDOT MVA) Chrissy Nizer and Maryland State Police (MSP) Superintendent Col. Woodrow Jones III, as well as highway safety advocates and more than 50 family members from around the state, for the 18th annual Maryland Remembers Ceremony. The memorial event honors the lives of Marylanders killed each year at the hands of impaired drivers. After being held as a virtual event in 2020 in consideration of the COVID-19 emergency, this year’s ceremony will be live at the State House Rotunda. In 2020, a year with substantially less traffic volume, more than 14,170 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, with approximately 1,345 of the arrests occurring from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day.
