MDOT MVA Opens Parkville Annex Office to Serve Federal Real Id Customers

Temporary Annex Space Available to Customers with REAL ID Appointments

GLEN BURNIE, MD (May 28, 2019) – Baltimore County residents now have 224 additional opportunities each day for an appointment to satisfy the federally mandated REAL ID requirement. Today, the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration (MDOT MVA) officially opened its newest customer service space, an office in the parking area of the North Plaza Shopping Center adjacent to the MVA Parkville Branch. The new Parkville Annex is available for customers who make REAL ID appointments. With the additional capacity, staff at Parkville can provide 3,544 REAL ID appointments weekly.

“At MDOT MVA, we are committed to providing premier customer service to the citizens of Maryland and finding innovative ways to make their experience simple and efficient,” said MDOT MVA Administrator Chrissy Nizer. “I encourage citizens to look up your REAL ID status, collect documents and make an appointment to come see us in Parkville or a branch near you. We’ll see you within 15 minutes, guaranteed.”

The new 1,334-square-foot Parkville Annex includes 12 additional stations for transactions. Customers coming to Parkville with REAL ID appointments will have instructions to go directly to the Annex. The Parkville MVA branch is located at 8966 Waltham Woods Road, and the Annex is in the nearby shopping center lot. Hours for both offices are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Saturday hours are 8 a.m. to noon for driver’s license services only, including providing REAL ID documents for both identification cards and driver’s licenses.

The Parkville Annex will remain in operation through late 2019. To provide even more choices for appointments for Baltimore County residents, the MDOT MVA Essex branch, 1338A Eastern Blvd., has extended its hours and is now open 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturdays through July 2. With the extended hours, staff at Essex can provide more than 900 REAL ID appointments weekly.

The overall deadline for obtaining a REAL ID is October 1, 2020, but more than one million Marylanders with a new REAL ID star license or identification card have not yet filed the required documents. Of these, 54.300 have been contacted by MDOT MVA multiple times since December and still need to bring those documents to the MDOT MVA by June to complete the process. Without those documents, MDOT MVA will start flagging the affected driver’s licenses and identification cards in June as “recalled.” For more details, check out the May 9 press release.

People can use the MVA Lookup Tool, to determine if they are REAL ID compliant. When customers enter a driver’s license or identification card number, the tool provides details on REAL ID status. If required to bring in documents, the lookup tool links to the Online Document Guide where customers can get information about required documents and make an appointment. Appointments can also be made online.

The agency has added appointments, extended hours on Thursday evenings and Saturdays and created temporary extended hours at several branches across the state. MDOT MVA also is reaching out in the community, educating Marylanders on REAL ID. To find out where MDOT MVA outreach teams will be, visit the calendar of events.
