GLEN BURNIE, MD – As part of the Hogan Administration’s ongoing effort to improve customer service in Maryland state agencies, the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration (MDOT MVA) recently introduced TSA Pre✓® and TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card services to the Gaithersburg MDOT MVA branch office.
“Bringing these services to our MDOT MVA branch offices shows Governor Hogan’s commitment to
increasing the availability and convenience of state government services,” said MDOT Secretary Pete K. Rahn.
Maritime workers, including terminal employees, longshoremen, truck drivers, contractors, and agents are required to have a TWIC card to access secure locations throughout the state, such as the Maryland Port Administration facilities.
The TSA Pre✓® program allows enrollees to benefit from an expedited screening program that allows travelers to leave on their shoes, belts, and light jackets, keep their laptop in its case and their 3-1-1 compliant liquids/gels in their carry-on bag.
“TSA Pre-Check allows Maryland travelers to save time during their trip and the TWIC card is essential for workers who need access to secure locations throughout the state.” said MDOT MVA Administrator Christine Nizer. “We are proud to assist Marylanders with their travel and working needs.”
Since inception at the Gaithersburg MDOT MVA branch office on August 25, 2017, 4 TWIC card and 106 TSA Pre✓® transactions have been completed. These services also have been offered at the Salisbury, Annapolis, and Waldorf MDOT MVA branch offices since July 2017. As of August 31, 2017, a total of 533 TWIC card and 1,234 TSA Pre✓® transactions have been completed at all available MDOT MVA branches.
TSA Pre✓® and TWIC card services are located inside designated MDOT MVA offices for easy customer access Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. MDOT MVA will make these services available at the Frederick branch in September, and TSA Pre✓® and TWIC card services will be added to the Glen Burnie branch at a later date.
