MDOT MVA Implements New Customer Service Enhancements

New Initiatives Include Expanded Vision Screening and New Payment Options

GLEN BURNIE, MD – To further its commitment to premier customer service, the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration (MDOT MVA) has implemented two new customer convenience initiatives: stand-alone vision screening stations inside MDOT MVA branch offices and the acceptance of the Discover® Card for payment in branches and online.

“We are committed to fulfilling Governor Larry Hogan’s promise to improve the customer experience and increase the availability and access to state services,” said Maryland Transportation Secretary Pete K. Rahn.

MDOT MVA’s new stand-alone vision screening stations will make it easier for customers to fulfill vision screening requirements class="MsoHyperlink" for driver’s license renewals and complete their transaction in less time. Under Maryland law, people over age 40 must have their vision re-examined with each driver’s license renewal.

To meet this requirement, an eligible customer may utilize the Online Vision Certification Service through their vision provider or the new stand-alone vision screening station in the branch offices.

Following the screening, the customer’s driving record will be updated with the results and eligible customers can then renew their driver’s license through MDOT MVA’s online service or at a self-service kiosk in each branch office.

Also, the Discover® Card now can be used at MDOT MVA branch counters, kiosks, and online for all driver license, identification card, and vehicle transactions. will also be accepted at all VEIP locations, including VEIP Self-Service Kiosks, effective December 1, 2017. However, Discover® Card will not be accepted for payments made using MDOT MVA’s automated phone system.

This idea was generated by MDOT MVA employees, based on customer feedback requesting more options in payment methods.

“Our goal is to provide exceptional customer service to Maryland residents,” said MDOT MVA Administrator Christine Nizer. “The new stand-alone vision stations are designed to reduce the amount of time customers need to spend in the branch offices, and the Discover® Card provides additional payment options. We are committed to making MDOT MVA transactions as easy and convenient as possible.”
