GLEN BURNIE, MD (January 26, 2016) - The Maryland Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) expects to open all 24 branch offices and 18 Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program (VEIP) stations on Tuesday, January 26, 2016. Crews have worked 24/7 clearing snow from all facility parking lots/sidewalks and are completing clean-up operations this evening. All branch offices are expected to open at 8:30 a.m. and VEIP stations at 7 a.m. A complete list of MVA locations can be found here. Customers should expect reduced parking at several facilities due to the large volume of snow.
“We care about our customers’ safety and encourage them to skip the trip to our offices and complete their transactions online,” said MVA Administrator Christine Nizer. “If customers must visit one of our locations, we encourage them to use extreme caution when driving.”
A complete list of MVA online services can be found here. Safe winter driving tips can be found here.
The MVA is tentatively scheduled to start the driving skills test at 11 a.m. tomorrow. However, this will occur only if road courses are safe and clear of snow and ice. MVA personnel will drive each road course in the morning to determine if they are safe to open. If a driving skills test is cancelled, MVA will contact customers to reschedule a date/time at their convenience.
Due to the closure of its facilities during the storm, MVA extended the following deadlines for Maryland residents:
Temporary vehicle registration expiring between January 22, 2016, and January 31, 2016, will be extended until February 1, 2016.
Any vehicle required to complete the VEIP test with a due date of January 27, 2016, will be extended until February 1, 2016.
Any Maryland resident with a Learner’s Permit that expires between January 22, 2016, and January 31, 2016, will be allowed to take the driver’s skills test through February 1, 2016.
