Disability Placards – Lost/Stolen and Returns

According to Maryland law, you are required to return your disability placard to the MVA when you no longer need it (e.g. moving out of the state) or when the placard has expired.


Who can return a disability placard?

Anyone can return a disability placard.


How do I return a disability placard?

Disability placards may be returned in person or by mail to any of the MVA branch offices. When returning the placard, please include the reason for the return (i.e., moved out of state, medical reason no longer exists, deceased, etc.)


What should I do if my placard has been lost or stolen?

If your placard has been lost or stolen:

  • Report the lost o​r stolen placard or plates to the local law enforcement agency.
  • Obtain the police report number from the local law enforcement agency.
  • Fill out the applications for Maryland Parking Placards/License Plates for Individuals with a Disability (form # VR-210) and Certified Statement/Receipt (form # VR-461) Include the police report number and the jurisdiction where the police report was taken.
  • Visit your local MVA branch office or express office (for placards only) to receive your substitute placards or plates in person or, mail the completed form with the appropriate fees to the MVA Disability Unit. Do not mail cash. You do not have to complete Section C, the Disability Certification Information if you have previously provided this information to the MVA.
  • Note: The Oakland office does not issue placards.


Fees:

  • There is no fee for returning a disability placard or for obtaining a replacement placard.
